ABOUT US

Gibson Family

Neighbors Automotive provides vehicle maintenance, repair and vehicle inspections. At this time, we are unable to take diesel engine work.

Neighbors Automotive is locally owned and operated by lifelong Alaskans. We are the Gibson family.

PROFESSIONAL
  • Austin is an ASE Master Tech who has been in the industry for over 14 years.

  • He has worked at both a dealership and independent shops.

  • He has worked in Anchorage (sorry), Fairbanks & North Pole.

  • Having grown up in the family carpet cleaning business, he has worked in Interior Alaska area for over 25 years.

  • Most of Austin's working life has had customer service as an element to it, he even part-timed at AutoZone once.

  • And Crystal is just a pro at whatever she's up to.  Like, seriously.

PERSONAL

Austin entered the auto industry in 2009 and began the automotive technology program at UAF. After finishing a second year of auto tech at UAA in Anchorage, he moved back to the Fairbanks area to resume working. After working with several different shops in Fairbanks, the opportunity presented itself to step away from automotive and work in another industry for a while. During that time, he continued doing side jobs and work for friends and family out of the garage at home. Over the next few years seeing the need for more good auto care, Austin & Crystal discussed starting an auto shop and what that might entail. Having grown up in a small family business, Austin knew the environment and work that would be required.

In the Summer of 2023 the decision was made and Neighbors Auto was born.

PERSONALITY

If you run into us on our days away from the shop, you probably won’t find us running up Granite Tors or biking Chena Dome in the rain. Nonetheless, we love Alaska and will be out enjoying it in more mild manners. We are always up for an adventure, even if it’s just driving to Delta to hang out at a random creek and collect rocks or watch a sunset from a campground in AK we’ve never stayed at before.
Some of our best trips were taking the path less travelled and not having a destination. Some call this getting ‘lost’…we call it an adventure! Gotta stay positive, ya know?
All in all, we love Alaska and enjoy living, travelling and exploring in the place we are privileged to call Home.
